Make up Class on Tuesday, May 8

The university has designated Tuesday, May 8 as a Monday make up day for the lost class hours from the holiday. Needless to say, many of you have schedules that do not allow you a schedule adjustment to come in on a Tuesday; however, I do want to provide you with any needed time.   As previously scheduled, our final exam will be Monday, May, 7.  However on Tuesday, May 8,  I will be in class to discuss any areas of Chinese Poetry  on which you may have questions, and in addition, (with a little luck... and midnight oil) have your final exam and final course grades for you to view.    It is unlikely that  I will have time to print grade sheets, but I will, at the very least, be able to tell you your grades. See you Monday for Chinese Poetry presentations and final exam review questions.

Tang Poetry for Chinese poetry presentations

Tang Poetry for Chinese poetry presentations  **The numbers for the poem are at the BOTTOM of the poem, e.g. Thoughts I is number 002. THOUGHTS I A lonely swan from the sea flies, To alight on puddles it does not deign. Nesting in the poplar of pearls It spies and questions green birds twain: "Don't you fear the threat of slings, Perched on top of branches so high? Nice clothes invite pointing fingers, High climbers god's good will defy. Bird-hunters will crave me in vain, For I roam the limitless sky." 002 Five-character-ancient-verse Zhang Jiuling ORCHID AND ORANGE I Tender orchid-leaves in spring And cinnamon- blossoms bright in autumn Are as self- contained as life is, Which conforms them to the seasons. Yet why will you think that a forest-hermit, Allured by sweet winds and contented with beauty, Would no more ask to-be transplanted THan Would any other natural flower? 003 Five-character-ancient-verse Zhang Jiuling THOUGHTS III T...
